A person familiar with the discussions says the Big Ten plans to announce Wednesday night how it will break up into two divisions. The person, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the conference hasn't released the information, says the process of putting six teams in each division was completed on Wednesday.

Alabama coach Nick Saban says Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram was playing the best football of his Crimson Tide career before his injury. Top-ranked Alabama's tailback injured his left knee in Monday's practice and had an arthroscopic procedure. Saban didn't shed much light Wednesday on his timetable for a return to the top-ranked Tide.

The man behind the mascot at Penn State is in trouble with the law. Police in State College, Pa., issued an underage drinking summons to Clint Gyory on Aug. 24. He was also cited for public drunkenness and criminal mischief on August 1. Gyory was supposed to don the Nittany Lion costume for Saturday's opener against Youngstown State.

Miami has entered talks about playing a football game at Yankee Stadium in 2013. Hurricanes athletic director Kirby Hocutt met with the Yankees on Tuesday about the possibility. Miami already has five home and five road games scheduled for that year, leaving two slots on its schedule. The Hurricanes plan to host longtime rival Florida on Sept.
